In match 18 of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2021, South Africa defeated West Indies comfortably by 8 wickets.
The defending Champions West Indies, lost their second consecutive match in this World Cup. It is very Unlikely that the defending champions will go on to save their crown this season. Firstly against England, the West Indies lost one sidedly by 6 wickets after their awful batting display, and now against South Africa too they haven’t put up much fight to defend their score.
West Indies were asked to bat first after losing the toss. The pitch at Dubai International Stadium, is a batting affiliated pitch. However, despite batting on such surface, West Indies only managed to get a score of 143 runs in their 20 overs. Reaching a total of 143, West Indies lost their 8 wickets against the crisp and accurate bowling of South Africa. The brilliant half ton by E Lewis(56) played a major part in the West Indies innings. D Pretorius took 3 wickets for the South African side and A Nortje went most economical in the South African bowling after his brilliant spell of 1/14 (4).
The South African side comfortably chased the target of 144 in the 19th over due to a collective batting efforts of R Hendricks(39), R ven der Dussen(43), and an explosive half ton by A Markram (51).
South Africa is now on 4th position in the Group 1 after this victory, whereas, the defending champions West Indies are at the bottom of the Group 1 with defeats in both their games and worst Net Net Run Rate of Group 1.
